February 7, 2012 (New York, NY) – It was announced today that, for the first time in 40 years, sponsors, brand managers and others seeking access to world soccer legend Pelé will be able to do so through a single agency. The newly incorporated Legends 10 LLC ("Legends 10") will be the exclusive agency empowered to represent Pelé globally with respect to all new branding, endorsement and product licensing agreements as well as appearances. The marketing and management of Pelé’s intellectual property rights represented by Legends 10 will now be handled with the singular vision of embracing and perpetuating the great legacy of the three-time World Cup winner and his illustrious life, both on and off the field.

"The timing of this consolidation of rights and representation is critical," says Legends 10 spokesman Terry Byrne. "Over the next four years, three of the world's biggest sporting events - the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics - will be taking place in Pelé's beloved home country of Brazil (where he has also been declared a national treasure). Clearly the interest in working and associating with Brazil's greatest sports star and goodwill ambassador will be at a premium over this period, and we are thrilled that Legends 10 has been selected to lead these efforts."

PRESS RELEASE : 24-10-2011 : MERSEYSIDE “LITTLE STARS” MEET FOOTBALL HEROES

TWO young cancer survivors from Merseyside enjoyed an action-packed adventure when they came face-to-face with their footballing heroes earlier today.

Thomas McManaman and Joel Hemans met England and Liverpool Football Club stars Steven Gerrard and Stewart Downing at Knowsley Safari Park as part of a special treat organised by Cancer Research UK and the England Footballers Foundation.

The two youngsters and their families, all huge Liverpool FC fans, got the chance to meet the two players and also helped feed the giraffes, before spending the rest of the afternoon enjoying the Safari Park. The young fans each received a signed football shirt and football as a special memento of the day. Thomas McManaman from Walton was diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2008 when he was just 15 months old.

Chemotherapy treatment started immediately, but within weeks Thomas’ condition had deteriorated and he stopped eating and lost weight.

Mum, Gillian Freeman, 41, said: “It was the worst feeling in my life. I felt like I had been hit with a tonne of bricks. He was still my baby.

“Thomas was taken into intensive care and, in the space of 24 hours, he had four cardiac arrests. I don’t think the oncology team thought he was going to make it through – they called him a miracle when he did.”

As Thomas recovered, he was moved to a high dependency unit, then the oncology ward, where he started chemotherapy again.

Thomas, now five, who has an older sister Rebecca, seven, completed his treatment earlier this year and in September he started Blessed Sacrament Junior School in Aintree.

Gillian added: “Thomas and Rebecca are huge Liverpool FC fans and had a fantastic time meeting the players.”

Nine-year-old Joel Hemans from Bootle was diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2010.

Joel, who has a younger sister, Katie, 3, spent several months undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatment at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and will continue to have maintenance treatment until 2013.

Despite everything he has had to face, the Bedford Primary School pupil has continued to stay upbeat and positive, attending school as much as possible throughout his treatment.
Mum, Lynn Redman, 43, said: “Being told your child has cancer is terrifying and it’s awful to watch them go through the treatment. But I’m so thankful that treatment is available for Joel and children like him.

PRESS RELEASE : 29-09-2011 : ENGLAND FOOTBALLERS KICK START CANCER AWARENESS ROADSHOW IN WYTHENSHAWE

The England Footballers Foundation is working with Cancer Research UK in Wythenshawe, Manchester to help people make positive changes to their lifestyle and reduce their risk of cancer.

The England Footballers Foundation will fund a Cancer Awareness Roadshow Unit. The Roadshow visits local communities and provides information on how to reduce the risk of cancer and the importance of early detection. Since launching in 2006, the mobile units have welcomed over 200,000 visitors on board.

Today, England and Manchester City Player Gareth Barry visited the Cancer Awareness Roadshow Unit for the first time. Gareth said:

“Cancer Research UK is a great cause the squad has decided to support over the next few years. We are putting our match fees into funding this Cancer Awareness Unit because we believe it can help save lives. It is somewhere people can go if they are worried about cancer. The staff on board are doing a great job on advising how to make healthy lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of cancer, and why it’s important to spot cancer early. We hope more and more people will visit the unit as it travels to communities across the country.”

more...   Download .pdf

The unit aims to raise awareness of how people can reduce their risk of cancer and spot signs and symptoms at an early stage, as well as providing support to help people make positive changes to their lifestyle. For free, visitors can talk to a specialist nurse in a private consultation room, take a BMI test to find out whether their weight is within a healthy range, and pick up useful health information to take away.

Claire Rimmer, Senior Cancer Awareness Roadshow nurse, said: “We hope to talk to members of the public – men and women, young and old - about how cancer can be prevented and detected. We offer visitors the opportunity to have a private consultation with our nurses and also invite local health workers onto the unit to inform people of health services in their area.”

The Cancer Awareness Roadshow will spread the word about how to reduce the risk of cancer and detect it early:

  • Know your body – by getting to know your body and what’s normal for you it will be easier to spot a change. A change won’t usually turn out to be cancer, but if it is something serious then finding it early could make all the difference.
  • Live a healthy life – being a non-smoker, keeping a healthy weight, being physically active, cutting down on alcohol, being SunSmart and eating a healthy diet can all lower the risk of cancer

As well as the Cancer Awareness Roadshow Unit, Cancer Research UK is the largest funder of cancer research in Manchester – spending over £16 million each year. To find out more about the Roadshow or how to reduce the risk of cancer and detect it early, visit www.cancerawarenessroadshow.org

PRESS RELEASE : 02-05-2011 : ENGLAND FOOTBALLERS HELP FOR HEROES CAMPAIGN 1H4H

To mark St George’s Day, the England Footballers Foundation has got together with Help for Heroes to help raise the awareness of their 1H4H campaign.

England Captain, John Terry said; ‘Myself and my England team-mates are so proud of our servicemen and women. We perform very different duties, but it is fair to say we share the same national pride.

The England Footballers Foundation is backing the Help for Heroes 1H4H campaign to help raise awareness of the heroes who put their lives on the line for their country. It’s right that we do this and we urge others to join in the 1H4H campaign.’

The campaign features England players alongside Lieutenant Chris Walker, of the Army Air Corps, Chief Petty Officer Trish Chatfield RN and Corporal Gaz Evans of the RAF, along with two ex-servicemen Simon Brown and Peter Dunning who were both injured in the line of duty.

Simon Brown who injuries came about in 2006 in Iraq when his patrol came under attack lost his left eye completely and only has 15 percent vision in his right eye said; ‘England footballers are heroes to many people and the fact they have pledged their support boost what we do and who we are. We are seen as heroes in a different way, we fight for our country. I don’t personally see myself as a hero but if people want to use what I’ve done and the adversity I’ve got over as an inspiration, then great.’

Pete Dunning who lost both his legs when an IED blew up the vehicle he was sat in at Sangin, Afghanistan added; ‘It’s great support we are getting from the England footballers. They are representing Queen and Country in their job, just in a different way. It’s fantastic for them to be doing what they are doing and supporting us, spending the day here with us. It’s very nice for them to come here and join in with the photo shoot. It’s great to meet them. I’ve only seen them on TV before. There’s a lot of interest in football in the armed forces, there is plenty of football rivalry.’
